The Story Behind the Sculpture

Shmuelik created his sculptures by deeply observing the people who lived and worked alongside him. "The Fisherman" is a figure rooted in the local landscape, but its origins stretch further.

Family accounts tell us that the pose was inspired by an Italian fisherman Shmuelik had seen years earlier, a memory that stayed with him. During the creation process in the atelier, Shmuelik’s own son served as the model to ensure the posture felt natural and authentic.
